More things to make with garlic! If you have an infection or have had something lingering and not been able to shake it, or if you want to make it through the winter without picking things up (or if you do, to help you recover more quickly)- this remedy is for you.

This recipe is called the 4 thieves vinegar (interesting history) and the basic ingredients are vinegar, garlic and herbs.

Ingredients:

Cider vinegar or Red wine vinegar

Selection of herbs – they can be dry or fresh – they are listed below

Crushed Garlic

Herbs you can use include: rosemary, sage, oregano, mint, lavender, thyme, lemon balm

Spices can include: cinnamon, cloves. You can also add onions, chillies, horse radish if you are feeling adventurous and if you have them to hand.

How to make it:

Use roughly equal amounts of crushed garlic and herbs

Put in a jar large enough to hold them and cover with the vinegar

Seal and keep in a warm place for 2-3 weeks (shake daily if possible)- Strain and bottle for use

Make a big batch as it will keep.

How to use 4 thieves vinegar:

Take a teaspoon several times per day-especially if you have an infection or winter virus/flu/cold

Over the winter take 1-2 teaspoons a day to stay healthy

Add to salad dressings

Use a tablespoon in the bath

Use topically as an antiseptic

Use as a topical spray to disinfect kitchen surfaces (dilute it down with water)
